Who We Are
Dr Elliot Mackenzie is a patient listener to women’s concerns and has a gentle manner to their assessment of health issues. He is expert trained in gynaecologic surgery, focussing on vaginal and keyhole or laparoscopic approaches to fix pelvic organ prolapse without mesh. He has experience and modern facilities to investigate all forms of bladder or urinary leakage and provide less invasive procedures without mesh and solutions for both simple and complex cases, including Bladder Botox injections.
With a skillset of combined approaches of vaginal, laparoscopic or open surgery, he is good at fixing abnormal vaginal bleeding from fibroids, adenomyosis, polyps and other causes, treating complex cases of endometriosis and ovarian cysts.
He is fellowship trained in New Zealand, has advanced laparoscopy courses from Australia and experience gained from work overseas. He has undergraduate Medicine and Surgery degrees from Zimbabwe. He keeps up to date with trends in women’s health and surgery, attending workshops locally and abroad, and collaborations with leading experts in the field of gynaecology, urology and colorectal work. His area of research is new approaches to the treatment of bladder problems and improved surgical techniques.
Elliot is also a specialist at Dunedin Public Hospital for the Southern DHB, teacher of medical students for the University of Otago, supervisor and trainer of specialist obstetricians and gynaecologists for the Royal Australasian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
He consults on patients from Dunedin, Oamaru, Wanaka, Queenstown, Invercargill, Te Anau, Balclutha, Gore, Timaru, covering all the regions of Otago, Waitaki, Southland, lower Canterbury of the South Island of New Zealand and beyond.
He enjoys golf and tries his hand at part-time farming, raising organic chickens, eggs, sheep and cows at Farmzinda just at the edges of Dunedin city.
